  15.         Good. Who's next ?

  17.     Shujumi steps up, assumes a fighting stance. Zim looks him over.
  18.     There's not not much to him. Shujumi attacks Zim, counters his 
  19.     counter, dances out of range.

  21.                 DJANA'D
  22.         Lookit the little guy go !
  23.  
  24.     Now Zim attacks. Shujumi flip kicks Zim in the head.

  35.     The recruits check Ace out. Zim sweeps Shujumi's legs, puts a
  36.     knee in the little man's throat. Shujumi passes out.

  43.     tumble a brutal obstacle course using JUMP BOOTS.

  48.     Djana'd hits a tower and falls to the deck hard, dropping her rifle.
  49.     She holds her knee, hurt. Zim races over to her.

  77.     watches the recruits face simulated 3-D OFF-WORLD FOES. In one room,
  78.     CYCLOPS SOLDIERS of Antilles, in another, red DEATH WALKERS,
  79.     and in a third, screeching ARACHNID WARRIORS.

  82.         But if you survive you will thank me
  83.         because you will be born again hard.
  84.         You will be a new person.
  85.         You will be a Cap Trooper. And then,
  86.         MAYBE, you'll  be good enough...

  88. 54    EXT    COMBAT KNIFE PRACTICE - DAY - ZIM

  90.     throws a knife, buries the point in a narrow post.

  114.     Zim pays no attention to Ace who remains stuck to the post. A
  115.     recruit trots up. Johnny stares, surprised. It's Dizzy.

  118.         Sir, recruit Flores, reporting for duty , sir.

  120.     She snaps Zim a salute and hands him her orders.

  123.         I see you specifically requested transfer
  124.         from Fort Cronkite to this training group...

  126.     Dizzy grins self-consciously at Johnny.

  137.     Dizzy hits the deck and starts doing push-ups, counting off as
  138.     MEDICS arrive and go to work on Ace's hand.

  143.     meat on the bottom, ice cream on top.

  223.     the pack , breathing hard, Johnny and Ace race.

  301.     Dizzy dresses down. Johnny and all the other guys check her out.
  302.     She has a fabulous body. Dizzy cathes Johnny looking. He turns
  303.     his back as she steps into the shower next to him.

  308.                 JOHNNY
  309.         Aw, who asked you to be so nosey ?

  311.                 KITTEN SMITH
  312.         Me, I got plans to be writer, and a writer's
  313.         got a right to be nosey. Flores, you know 
  314.         Rico from Buenos Aires... What's his story ?

  316.     Dizzy uses her hand to divert the shower spray towards Johnny's crotch.

  319.         Well, some say he turned his back on the family
  320.         fortune to be a citizen, others say he did it for
  321.         a girl... missed a spot there, bucko... which is 
  322.         funny because Johnny says I joined up to be
  323.         with him, but why would I do that ?
  324.         He doesn't even like me.

  329.     Everyone look down at Johnny's crotch, laughing. Johnny
  330.     blushes, grabs a towel and exits the shower.

  332. 58    INT BARRACKS - NIGHT - INTO CAMERA - JOHNNY
  333.  
  334.     pans the barracks with a little handcam, neat bunks in a row, other recruits
  335.     lounging around in their skivvies.
  336.  
  337.                 JOHNNY
  338.         I know it's not much, but it's home. Over
  339.         there's my bunk where I dream about you
  340.         every night...
  341.  
  342. Ace, Kitten Smith, Shujumi and Breckinridge dance around and moon the
  343.     camera.

  345.                 JOHNNY
  346.         Hey, do you mind ?
  347.  
  348.     Johnny moves the camera away from the guys. Katrina walks by from the
  349.     shower with Dizzy, mugs into frame.
  350.

  352.         Hey, what's going on ?

  355.         I bet it's that girl I was talking about...
  356.         Her name's Carmen, I think.

  364.     Johnny heads for the door.

  377.         Boot's pretty tough, and sometimes
  378.         I think I won't make it, but then I
  379.         imagine you're watching me, and that
  380.         gives me someting... I try harder.

  382.         a shot at squad leader.

  384.     The barracks lights go out. Taps plays over the public address.
  385.     Johnny lowers his voice.

  388.         Uh-oh, I gotta pack it in. I hope you're
  389.         having fun, hope you're careful.
  390.         No training accidents for you, eh ?
  391.             (leaning into camera)
  392.         I want to kiss you so badly. I want
  393.         to feel you next to me, I-

  395.     Behind him , someone begins to sing , badly.
  396.  
  397.                 ACE
  398.         I love you truly, so truly, dear...!

  400.     Ace, the singer, and the other guys peer down from the transom 
  401.     over the door, giggling, delighted with themselves.

  407.     watches the end of Johnny's letter. Ace continues to sing.

  415.     The letter ends. Carmen smiles. A BALD CADET PILOT smacks her on the
  416.     arm as she runs by in a sleek blue pressure suit.

  419.         Orbit in five, Ibanez ! First one there gets
  420.         to fly !
  421.  
  422.     Grinning, Carmen grabs her duffel, takes off after her.

  424. 61    INT    BOARDING CORRIDOR - DAY - CARMEN

  426.     and the bald cadet race for the hatch past other recruits.

  430.     gets there first, jumps into the pilot seat. The Bald Pilot takes
  431.     second seat.

  447.     straeks upward from the lunar floor past orbitting training platforms where
  448.     CADETS in brightly colored pressure suits float against the Earth which
  449.     hangs beyond the horizon.

  454. 64    INT    BOAT - LUNAR ORBIT - CARMEN
  455.  
  456.     blasts past a DESTROYER orbiting in dock, zips between CORVETTES
  457.     and other slower fleet traffic in the crowded space lanes of Luna.
  458.     The two late cadets are terrified.
  459.

  461.         Geez, I thought I liked to fly fast !

  463.                 CARMEN
  464.         This is nothing. Today, I get to fly that !
  465.  
  466.     She points. Now visible from behind a host of smaller ships,
  467.     STARSHIP ATHENA, of older design, but impressive.

  469. 65    INT    ATHENA - COMMAND AND CONTROL - DAY CYCLE - CARMEN
  470.  
  471.     arrives on the bridge, dark, cramped, all-business. She salutes the instructor,
  472.     CAPTAIN DELADIER, 40s.
  473.  
  474.                 CARMEN
  475.         Pilot Trainee Ibanez reporting for duty, ma'am.
  476.  
  477.                 DELADIER
  478.         Take the number one chair, Ibanez.
  479.         Follow all instructions of you supervisor.
  480.

  482.         Yes, ma'am !
  483.  
  484.     Carmen turns for her station, but stops in her tracks. Her supervisor is
  485.     Zander Barcalow, now a 2nd Lieutenant.

  488.         Hey ! What are you doing here ?

  490.                 ZANDER
  491.         I'm the guy who's gonna teach you to 
  492.         fly this crate.
  493.  
  494.     Carmen logs on. The ship recognizes her as a pilot trainee.

  496.                 CARMEN
  497.         Assistant insructor... You must be some
  498.         kind of a hot stick.
  499.         Should I call you "sir" ?
  500.  
  501.                 ZANDER
  502.         Only when I give you an order.
  503.  
  504.                 DELADIER
  505.         Prepare for departure.

  507.     Carmen and Zander go to work.
  508.  
  509.                 CARMEN
  510.         It's amazing, us running into each other
  511.         like this. Maybe it's fate.

  514.         Maybe not. I heard about this crazy girl
  515.         coming through the academy, solid math,
  516.         a little wild on the stick, but a natural.
  517.         When it turned out it was you, I made
  518.         sure we'd run into each other...

  521.         Alright, take her out, Ibanez.

  523.                 CARMEN
  524.         Yes, ma'am.
  525.  
  526.     All eyes are on carmen as she grabs the stick. The ship shudders under
  527.     her hand. She winks at Zander.
  528.

  530.         In simulation, my supervisors could never
  531.         keep up.
  532.  
  533.                 ZANDER
  534.         This isn't simulation anymore.
  535.         Take'er out easy, cadet.
  536.  
  537.                 CARMEN
  538.         Oh, yes, sir. Vector ?
  539.  
  540.                 ZANDER
  541.         Twenty-five by five, roll seven.
  542.         And don't exceed port speed.
  543.  
  544.     Carmen rocks the stick, and the view from the bridge spins smoothly
  545.     away from the dense orbiting yards os Luna toward the outer system.

  547.                 CARMEN
  548.         Or...?
  549.  
  550.                 ZANDER
  551.         They revoke our flight status.
  552.  
  553.                 CARMEN
  554.         Oh, I see... teamwork.
  555.  
  556.     Carmen jogs past lumbering freighters. Zander's impressed.
  557.  
  558.                 DELADIER
  559.         Steady as she goes, number one.
  560.         Prepare for warp. Number two,
  561.         design for Jupiter orbit.
  562.  
  563.                 ZANDER
  564.         Yes, ma'am. Star drive in three...
  565.         two... one...
  566.  
  567.     Space appears to bend. Zander and Carmen share a smile. They 
  568.     blur together, becoming one, then:    WHAM !
  569.  
  570. 66    EXT    LUNA - STARSHIP ATHENA
  571.  
  572.     disappears in a flash of blinding light.
  573.  
  574. 67    EXT    WAR GAMES COURSE - DAY - THE RECRUITS
  575.  
  576.     have been divided into two teams. RED TEAM includes Ace, Katrina,
  577.     Breckinridge, and Djana'd. Johnny, Shujumi, Kitten Smith, and Dizzy
  578.     are part of BLUE TEAM.
  579.  
  580.                 ZIM
  581.         The object of this exercise is to capture
  582.         your enemy's flag before your enemy
  583.         captures yours.
  584.  
  585.     Bronski passes out Morita SmartRifles.
  586.  
  587.                 ZIM
  588.         These weapons have been modified for
  589.         this exercise. If your enemy hits you,
  590.         your suit will fail. You will be unable
  591.         to move. You will be as good as dead.
  592.  
  593. 68    EXT    WAR GAMES COURSE - LATER - DJANA'D
  594.     
  595.     bumps the magnification of her heads up display to survey Blue Team's
  596.     flag guarded by two recruits. She jumps down to joining other Red
  597.     Team members on the move.
  598.  
  599.                 DJANA'D
  600.         It's right over the next ridge...
  601.         Only two guards.
  602.  
  603.     Johnny, Kitten Smith, and Dizzy open fire from athicket as they pass.
  604.     Djana'd and the others collapse as their suits fail, Djana'd laughing
  605.     because playing at war seems funny.
  606.  
  607.                 KITTEN SMITH
  608.         You are now prisoners of the Blue Team.
  609.         Tell us your plans or die !
  610.  
  611.                 DJANA'D
  612.         Oh no ! Name, rank, and mind your own
  613.         business is all you get from me !
  614.  
  615. 69    EXT    RED TEAM FLAG - DAY - RED TEAM
  616.  
  617.     opens fire as the Blue Team appears. Shujumi and other Blue Team members
  618.     go down in an ambush led by Breckinridge. Johnny dives for cover, and finds
  619.     himself sharing it with Dizzy.
  620.  
  621.                 KITTEN SMITH
  622.         I'm going in ! Let's go !
  623.  
  624.     Kitten Smith makes arun for the flag with a rifle team. Ace and Katrina open 
  625.     fire from two new hidden Red Team positions, taking Kitten and his team
  626.     down with a cross fire.
  627.  
  628.                 JOHNNY
  629.         Man, they're defended... no way in.
  630.  
  631.                 DIZZY
  632.         Flip six, three hole.
  633.  
  634.                 JOHNNY
  635.         What ?
  636.  
  637.                 DIZZY
  638.         High school... remember ? Run a flip
  639.         six, three hole play, and you might
  640.         score...
  641.  
  642.     Johnny looks at the course in a new way, nods.
  643.

  645.         Cover me.

  648.         You got it.

  650.     Johnny tumbles open ground, vaults into the air. Dizzy takes out Breckinridge
  651.     as he rises to fire. Johnny lands, knocks out Katrina, then Ace. He picks up
  652.     Ace's fallen Morita.

  655.         Thanks, pal.

  657. 70    EXT    OBSERVATION TOWER - DAY - ZIM AND CORPORAL BRONSKI
  658.  
  659.     watch Johnny firing both Moritas simultanously and taking out the remaining
  660.     Red Team defenders. He grabs the Red Team flag and hurls it into the air like spear.
  661.  
  662.                 ZIM
  663.         Kid's got some moves...
  664.  
  665. 71    INT    AIRBORNE SKIMMER - DAY - THE RECRUITS
  666.  
  667.     line up in the door of a SKIMMER, the military's standard utility aircraft,
  668.     to practice drops from altitude.
  669.  
  670.                 ZIM
  671.         Smith, GO ! McIntire, GO ! Flores, GO !
  672.         Rico, I'm making you sqaud leader !
  673.  
  674.                 JOHNNY
  675.         Sir, thank you, sir !
  676.  
  677.                 ZIM
  678.         Don't stand there dumb... GO !
  679.  
  680.     Johnny jumps, plummeting toward the earth.
  681.  
  682.                 JOHNNY
  683.         YEEEE-Haaaaaaaaaaaaa...!

  685.     Next in line, Ace scowls.

  689.     have some free time. Johnny makes a big show of polishing the chevrons
  690.     that designate him as Squad Leader.

  694.         ever been so pleased with himself ?

  698.         his brown nose, I guess.
